Sway is a spread-out village on the southern edge of the New Forest National Park, with its own station on the main line and the coast at Lymington and New Milton a short drive away. Homes are mostly detached houses in large gardens along quiet lanes, with cottages and converted outbuildings, and buyers outnumber the homes to let.

Sway is a village of lanes and large gardens on the southern edge of the New Forest, with a main line station in the middle and the sea a short drive south. It suits families and commuters who want room, the Forest and a train, and it is one of the National Park's four defined villages. Flexie Estate Agents lets, sells and values homes in Sway from our Bournemouth office.

Renting in Sway

Homes to let in Sway are mostly family houses on the lanes and cottages near the station. Tenants are commuters, families who want the village school and space, and people renting while they buy in the Forest. Because the station is in the village, a house within a walk of it lets to a wider field than an equivalent house elsewhere in the Forest.

For furnished stays of a month or more, the group's apartments are in central Bournemouth (property to rent in Bournemouth), on the same railway line; where a cottage is a holiday let, management is through Sea Breeze (holiday let management).

Buying and selling in Sway

Buyers are commuters, families, riders and downsizers. The New Forest National Park Authority decides planning, and as a defined village Sway has more room for change than the open Forest, though extensions still need consent. Selling your property in Sway and property valuation in Sway explain our approach, and the stamp duty guide covers a buyer's tax.

Letting a property in Sway

Council tax, housing standards and licensing are New Forest District Council's. Houses on the Forest side need gates and fences that keep ponies and cattle out. Letting agents in Sway covers how we let and manage.

Getting around

Trains from Sway run one way to Brockenhurst, Southampton and London Waterloo, and the other to New Milton and Bournemouth. The lanes lead to the A337 for Lymington and New Milton, and cycle routes run north onto the Forest from the station.

Nearby areas

Brockenhurst is the next station up the line, Lymington and Milford on Sea are on the coast to the south-east and south, and New Milton is the next station towards Bournemouth. The New Forest area page covers every village, and Bournemouth is the nearest large town.

Commuters by rail

A station in the village lets people work in Southampton, Bournemouth or London and live on a Forest lane, which few villages can offer.

Families wanting space

Large gardens, quiet lanes, the village school and both the Forest and the beach within reach bring families from the towns.

Riders

Houses with paddocks on the Forest side, and bridleways onto the open heath, attract equestrian buyers and tenants.
